The question I often hear (beside the one on socialization, of course) is what do we teach Zosia and Jas and how do we do that. To answer that question I will post here information on our teaching and learning experiences, projects we do, books we read etc. I can not guarantee that what works for us will work for others - every homeschooling family has to find their own way of teaching. We speak 3+2 (some Taiwanese and a bit of Japanese) languages at home and that's why our teaching is also multilingual and multicultural. Almost all the projects and all the subjects are taught in English, Chinese and Polish simultaneously. We use a variety of materials in these languages. Some textbooks are in Polish (especially maths, physics and chemistry), others are in English (history, geography, astronomy, biology, physics and chemistry) or Chinese (maths). I also teach history and geography of Poland and history of Taiwan along with the world history and geography. For the past two years we've been using a ready-bought curriculum for world history, geography, English reading and science (biology, physics and chemistry). Sonlight is based on great literature and not on textbooks, which suits us very well. Of course we add a lot to this curriculum, but at least it gives me a basis to work on. |
